Yeah, to swap in a VR6, AFTER the swap, you'll still have to spend a LOT of $$$$ to make it faster than a GTI. And that's assuming you're going big baller and doing the 3.2 swap. If the mounts are similar to the Mk4, you could pick up a rebuilt 24V VR6 for like $3k, pay someone a grand to swap it in, if they can figure out how to make it run ...
