Oil leak after timing chain replacement

May 31, 2016 · I noticed my M is going through a bit of oil lately and last night i noticed a burning oil smell so i took a look today it appears there is oil leaking from my timing chain tensioner. Is this easy to replace? I have basic mechanical knowledge and i dont want to replace it for it to screw the engines timing up? advice is appreciated thanks!! The small hole will let out any liquid that may leak out or in and the loosely fitting cotter pin will bounce around and keep the hole clear. Then when it comes time to replace your timing chain or if there's another reason to remove the timing cover, replace the seal and fill the "extra" hole with epoxy, weld or even leave as is. Also had leaking timing chain covers on my 1994 964. Decided to tackle it and it wasn't too bad getting at the one on the driver side--the main culprit. The gasket set that came with the new engine states that no gasket is provided for the timing chain cover because the cover must be replaced with a new one. What gives? The plastic cover came off the engine very easily.
